Since I was a little kid I looked at her and thought "I will not grow up to be like her" and so many of my choices, large and small, have been made with that end in mind. Like, when I don't feel like cleaning, I remember that leaving dishes in the sink is something my mom would do and so I clean. I did well in school, I married somebody who isn't particularly exciting but very emotionally stable, I read parenting books all the time, etc. Not wanting to be like my mom is a huge motivator for me.
