To 11:33, I just read your post several times to make sure I didn’t write it. I recently visited my parents for the first time in almost two years and didn’t have pain. And yes, I’ve been scaring myself on google. DH also cant remember what year we bought any of the mattresses in the house. Now I’m wondering if we also should replace our kids’ mattresses. They are teens.
I am that poster and I'd guess maybe so! Teens and their young bodies probably aren't as affected by an old mattress-- plus they put less wear and tear on them as 40-60-80 lb kids. But I'd guess it might still be a good idea. Tonight I'm going to rotate my mattress and see if that helps a bit. Not a long term solution, but could tell me something about what's causing the back pain since we so rarely even rotate our mattress. Like maybe I haven't in a year or more! I might also sleep on my kid's mattress one night-- it's cheap but like a month old. If signs point to mine needing to be replaced, which I'm sure they will, I'll need to bite the bullet. $1000 +/- is a lot for us, and I'm currently out of work, but if it improves our sleep it might literally pay for itself. If I need one fewer hour of sleep per day (I've been seeming to need an extra 1-2 hours in the past year! Huh!) then I'll probably have more energy to finish projects, cook at home even. Ore often, get another job sooner. I've been stressing the importance of our kid's sleep to DH lately and, well!! Actually now that I think of it, DH has been taking more catnaps in the afternoon in the past year or two, so... Can't believe it's been staring me in the face this whole time! I had no idea!
It really is crazy, PP. Like, my hips would hurt just sanding still, but not while walking oddly enough. And I was starting to envy the young and pain free. Haha! I was starting to mourn living without pain and wondering what I wouldn't be able to do as I age and my body continues to deteriorate. I still can't believe it. [OP]
OP, I appreciate you! (I am that PP.) Assuming a new mattress does the trick, it will have made the entire existence of DCUM worthwhile.
❤️❤️
PP with an update-- we rotated the mattress last night and there was a MARKED improvement in my pain this morning-- I think way too much to be a placebo effect. More than 50%. I'll also try my daughter's bed, but I'm going to start looking for mattresses ASAP!
