The knockout stage of the Euro 2020 tournament begins on Saturday. My picks from the heart (Portugal), head (France) and gut (Italy) are all, no surprise, in the knockout stages. Here are the 16 teams and their match-ups in the first round of the knockouts: Wales v. Denmark Italy v. Austria Netherlands v. Czechia (or Czech Republic, if you must) Belgium v. Portugal Croatia v. Spain France v. Switzerland England v. Germany Sweden v. Ukraine From this round, I'm really looking forward to Belgium/Portugal and England/Germany. Incidentally, if anyone doesn't have subscription TV, a few of the games are shown on Univision (in Spanish, of course) local channel 14.1. Also, there's a free app called PrendeTV that we've been using to stream all the games (they've had all the games except the couple of games that Univision broadcasts, so I think there's relationship between the app and Univision). Again, PrendeTV is in Spanish, but for watching the game who cares. It's a good option if you're away from the TV on game day; or if you can connect your phone to your TV you can just watch it that way. Força Portugal!
LOL
A) Fortunately Cristiano already got his goals to solidify his legend and has won two trophies with his country. Messi is still missing. B) France is stacked AF but they’re very dependent on individualities. They’re not winning. C) Belgium has now Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne on pins and needles. If they can’t play against Italy they’ll be out. D) Italy will very likely knock Belgium out - and will most likely lose in semifinals. Who? It’ll be between France/Spain/Croatia/Switzerland.
No Messi’s legend is fine. Put Messi on Portugal and Portugal would have won the World Cup but World Cup and national team trophies are in no way an indicator of a player’s greatness.
Messi is an innate talent. But with a huge marketing campaign since he was “rescued” from a country that wouldn’t help with his hormones… the rest is history. Like the 555 million euros he received in the last 4 years with ridiculous after ridiculous embarrassing performances in champions league. Cristiano has been top scorer in 3 different countries. Won trophies with national country. And did so without the same marketing campaign. Subtle differences you know…
