This is all very misleading and it is simply not true that there are not top academic students at Norwood.

Each class varies in where they land.   In my child's year the breakdown was as follows (placing these in buckets, rather than school by school). You can hardly say this is not strong placement.

Sidwell, STA, GDS: 17 
Potomac, Holton, St Stephens St Agnes: 8
Landon, Burke, St Johns, Field, St Andrews, Georgetown Prep, Bullis: 15
Public (by choice ):  7
Boarding/Moved: 4

In some years, clusters occur - I've seen it at GDS, Sidwell, Maret, Landon, Bullis, Georgetown Prep . I've always been amazed at how it varies and how it reflects the personality of the graduating class. Norwood's "numbers" to any given school vary year by year - whether that be a Bullis or a Sidwell....  And many of the families that return to public have very strong students and there are also very strong students that don't end up at a Big 3 (for whatever reason - competition from classmates, large sibling group, no fianancial aid etc.) [/quote]

This doesn't make any sense.  STA takes 10 local kids for 9th in most typical years (the rest are boarders).  There's no way that Norwood got 5+ of those spots in any year.

To be clear - this does not say more than 5 went to STA - It means that 17 students from the class went to either Sidwell, or STA, or GDS.  I purposely did not the breakdown to each individual school... but I will say that each school had at least 3 (and clearly the others had far more than 3 to add up to 17)[/quote]

On their website, Norwood has 2019 results and it is Sidwell (1), GDS (2), STA (1).  
4 total.  I have a hard time believing that either Sidwell or GDS BOTH took 7 kids from Norwood in a recent year.  [/quote]

That page has a typo. Those are results for 2020. Class of 2019 has 14 kids at GDS or Sidwell. Class of 2017 also had strong placement at those 2 schools. Typically there are also a few at Maret and the Cathedral schools.

This is true, because of where I was in the application process, I paid special attention to the 2019 outplacement list- 9-10 Norwood 8th graders went to GDS[/quote]

It is also true that 2020 and 2021 have a good portion going to Bullis[/quote]
