How &quot;near&quot; DC, though?  Houses inside of ANY major east coast city generally do. not. have. garages.   Not Philly, Boston, NYC, Baltimore. Washington.  Have you spent much time looking at city lot sizes?

True, as you get further out of the city core, you'll start to see detached garages from 1920s, esp in NYC and Philly, which have larger geographic footprints within the city limits.  (ie, a lot of Brooklyn, Queens, Chestnut Hill).

I live near this house, and I could have a big modern double garage on my lot that fits 2 SUVs and all the kids' bikes, etc.   But then my entire backyard would be gone.  Why would I do such a stupid thing?
