Butter is fantastic and peanut butter is fantastic, but together they are much less than the sum of their parts. My mom and her Norwegian family all insisted on buttering bread before applying the peanut butter, claiming that otherwise the bread would be too dry. This makes no sense given the fat content of peanut butter, but they could not be dissuaded. If we were out of butter, these crazy people would put mayo on the bread in addition to the PB, which was truly revolting. [/quote]
