As a parent of a5th grader, I could literally not care less about their opinion on a group of families choosing to hold their own in-person outdoor graduation ceremony. This is where MCPS needs to take a step back from the lecturing. They have chosen to not allow in person events or visitors on campus. I disagree with that decision, but they have that authority over their buildings. They can also STFU about what people do in their free time on their private property.
I listened to part of the board meeting where this came up and it was interesting. Problem with these parent sponsored things is that many kids get left out. So the most popular rich kids get something nice and the disadvantaged and kids with disabilities are left out. But well if there is anything this pandemic taught us, it is that many people don't care about anyone but themselves. Enjoy your party!
This is called real life. Should I also not bring my kids to Europe because there poor kids won't have a chance to go? Or should I not get my kids a car, because poor kids have to take the bus? The obsession with equity stops the minute you step outside the school. Yes, some kids may get left out. But that's life.
You are everything that is wrong with this county. 35% FARMS kids, but not my problem. I should not deny my kids Europe. Just wow
Listen to yourself. You're literally showing how making everything about equity is a bad thing. You said since some kids can't go to to an outdoor graduation party, planned, funded and organized entirely OUTSIDE the school system, then no kids should be able to do that. It's ridiculous. I also bet that you're full of crap too and provide lots of things to your kids that lower-income families dont have.
