He mentioned in his note that the gun shop owner asked his brother if he had any 'mental health issues'. The brother lied. The gun was handed over.

How about we start with that?

National database accessible by firearms sellers and updated by medical service providers with a simple read-out - you put your driver's license or ID under the scanner, you get DENIED if you're on certain prescriptions or restrictions.

This is maybe the only gun control idea I’ve heard that I wouldn’t be in favor of! That would prevent a lot of people from seeking mental health treatment.

Personally, I wonder if a waiting period would have helped. Clearly these were very disturbed young men and it wasn’t a passing impulse. Still, it’s possible things would have looked different three weeks later. [/quote]
