I stopped taking my kids for rides on the bike path near us because of the number of roaming dogs we encountered.  Twice we were chased on our bikes. I spent a bit of time reading what to carry for safety and came up with no good answer. I also had an idiot neighbor who got a rottweiler which killed their other pets and who got out unnoticed several times. He would go nuts when we were out in our back yard. One neighbor's dog was mauled and killed as she and her kids walked it just outside our neighborhood.  A pitt bull pulled away from it's owner and killed it within minutes. Electric fences do not work well for some dogs. The owner should not trust the rottweiler in an electric fence. [/quote]
