Right, and on the men's side a country with a population half the size of Virginia finished in 2nd place in the last World Cup. So, yeah, POPULATION
Don't be a dolt. The men's side is a completely different situation.
No, Europe is different. Players can train at pro clubs all across Europe. We can't. Pro academies develop talent, not nations. The women's side is being run the same way. The best players will go to the best Academies and they do not need to be in their home country. Our best players can't do that until they are 18 without a European Visa. So, keep on believing that our amateur system (which is what collegiate athletics are) will continue to develop Professional caliber players. Women's soccer is being professionalized in Europe at a rate that is eclipsing our top league that will probably fold in less than a decade. For all the "support" you claim we have for women's soccer there are divisions in ODSL that have more teams than our top league has clubs. Our league will fold and with it the inability to play and train professionally domestically. The ability to train and play professionally in Europe will be limited to Visa status and typical timeframe of waiting until 18 years old to even move over. We have significant challenges ahead that if they are not road mapped out properly, just relying on speed and athleticism will no longer be enough.
