There are elite, good and mediocre colleges spread throughout the country.  Most people don't know much about any elite colleges.  DCUM posters seem to have quite limited knowledge of most colleges outside of the Ivy League and maybe NESCAC.[/quote]

DP here. It's a little funny to see east coast folks creating this fantasy that they're being discriminated against in this thread. Pretty thin-skinned if you ask me, considering that the derision and ridicule of folks from "flyover country" are way, way more pronounced than the other way around. Provincialism exists in equal measure in most parts of this country. I'm sorry but no one is ever going to convince me that someone from Boston or Philly (or even DC/NOVA) is more "sophisticated" than someone from, say, Chicago.[/quote]

For the record, I'm a New Yorker, but I don't agree with some of the baseless elitism that I see on DCUM and especially in the colleges forum. No one is saying you're not American or threatening to revoke your citizenship, calm down. What people CAN very reasonably say is that the world and experience that a certain subset of elitist snobs live in (certainly the ones who would stereotype any person not from the Northeast or West Coast as being "rubes") do not at all reflect the world and experience of the majority of Americans. So there ya go. If you're living in your tiny little bubble looking down at the rest of the country, I think the rest of the country has a little leeway to talk back a little.
