I do care about the education gap & some people say in person school isn’t the answer because minority communities are selecting distance learning. I have a fair amount of education / teaching experience so I’m not just spewing crap here. Now I’m already sending my kindergarten to private this year because I can’t supervise DL while working & I wish everyone & not just those who could afford it had that in person option.  I’m probably going to send all 3 of my kids to private next year because I want 5 days a week of school while I work. I think we need to make those options available to anyone who wants it & not just those who can afford it. It does not help community unity or help to make DL better or level the playing field to keep so many families in full time DL who want in person education.

What I think could help the situation for 2021-2022 is to create a centralized DL divorced from the base school. Then knock yourself out hiring THE BEST DL teachers on a temporary basis to staff those classes. Have this centralized area really focus on how to do the best DL as possible & take best practices from what worked this school year & from virtual Va. But also give those who want in person the option. I think we will still continue to have problems if we mix those who want DL & those who want in person and I think it’s too difficult to do a good DL at the base school level - not enough resources until you centralize it. Will this work - I say yes. Look no further than Peloton. They have the best instructors & it doesn’t matter where you are to take them.
