He makes $174k as a Senator. It's unclear if his wife works.

And yeah, $1.3 million isn't that much for NOVA, but the mortgage still has to be paid. I suppose if he and his wife didn't have any school loans and made good money in private practice for a few years, but he was a court clerk for a few years, where he didn't clear $100k, then a law firm associate, law professor in Missouri, and then Missouri AG, which also pays about $100k. None of that is adding up to a $1.3 million house.

Haha, so true. Interesting that Kirkland link doesn't work anymore. Was she sacked or was it taken down because she was being harassed? I was curious which office it said she worked out of - their closest to Missouri is Chicago, so I'm safely assuming Washington, which drives the point home they are full time Beltway residents. Why would Missouri want this hack phony representing them? His family literally lives 1,000 miles away.[/quote]

According to the Federalist Society, Erin Morrow Hawley has not worked for Kirkland for several years, but she worked in the Washington DC office.  She currently works for the Independent Women's Law Center in Washington DC which advocates in court and lobbies Congress.  Hmm.  A Congressional lobbyist married to a US Senator; sound like a conflict of interest?  And they live in NoVa and she works in DC, so how does he maintain his MO residence?  Even if they are building a new home in MO, is he really going to maintain his residence in MO while she clearly maintains a residence in VA?  This sounds like tax evasion to me; like they are trying to dodge VA state taxes.  VA taxes are slightly higher than MO's.
