Mine has a teacher who called him a different but similar name - think Tim/Tom or Nat/Nate. He kept doing it after being corrected over the first two weeks of school, so my kid gave up, though still signs his papers with the correct name. When the teacher said the wrong name in conferences, I corrected him, several times, and by the end of the conference I gave up too! I don't really care, but now that everyone in the class jokes about it, I'm afraid it will become a nickname that sticks. This happened to my brother's friend when a teacher miscalled him Michael for a year, and for 10 years after, everyone called him Mike when his name was actually John.
We've had teachers like this. I got a nasty phone call from one teacher who said my child wouldn't respond to his name. I told her if she called him by the right name that would help. He's been told by us its fine not to answer to the wrong name as its nothing like his name.
