OP, can you be sure he didn't accept the blame (perhaps you know it as taking the rap or stepping in the trap) for a cousin, sibling, dear friend or even not-so close acquaintance so that they could go scot-free? Perhaps this serious legal trouble is evidence of how selfless this person really is, that he would take on this legal trouble to help a dear associate navigate such difficult circumstances. It may be that a corrupt law enforcement agency sought to frame this innocent party, and may have beaten and coerced them into coonfessing for a crime they not commit, only to be rescued by this noble man who came forward stating, "No, this goes no further. I am the perpetrator. I am the guilty one." Perhaps also the police wanted so badly to convict the originally accused that they threatened the new confessor with all manner of ill treatment but he did not waver. Also can you be certain he was affair you were on a "date."?  Did he even know who, or whom, you are?  Is it possible he thought you were someone else? Or that it wasn't clear who you claimed to be. What was the location?[/quote]
