It term of developing discipline, it doesn't matter. I'm close with adults who I knew as children. We spent our childhood treat or treating together ... some were disciplined eating 1 piece of candy a day, which made their stash last for months. Some were allowed as much as that wanted. Decades later, there is no adult correlation re: discipline.
My brother was the kid who would eat one piece per day, if that, and basically forget about it. He'd still have Halloween candy in the freezer at Easter. I was the kid stuffing as much chocolate into my mouth as possible and begging to eat his candy. We're exactly the same as adults. He just doesn't have a sweet tooth, and I definitely do. I let my kids eat as much Halloween candy as they want, but it ends up they only have a few pieces a day, if that. The novelty of having so much candy wears off quickly.
