I would not be happy with my kid, no. But the school should have suspended them, sent them home for online only this year. Expelling **freshman** for a gathering of 11 in a hotel that is not even on their campus when they are lonely and on their own for the first time, and then keeping all the tuition on 9/4, is outrageous. Kids make errors. Adults are making all kinds of errors--none of us has lived in a pandemic pretty much, and it is not even an Ebola pandemic. The kids are facing what is basically going to be a bad cold for them. So any school that expels for this mistake is greedy and stupid. Northeastern is a subpar school anyways--always has been too.[/quote]

IF the hotel is a dorm, then its on college property.  They know the rules, they choose not to follow them.   This is a kid failure and a parenting failure if you think its ok. That was not an Error.[/quote]

Are you always this rigid? I feel sorry for your kids, if so. Remember: these are freshmen. They have never lived away from home until a week or so ago. They are in a hotel. No one they know has gotten seriously ill,  most likely. They have no friends yet. They are in a large city. And they gathered in a group of 11, not 50. Please. Suspension and online until the campus opens regularly is the correct punishment here.[/quote]

Wow, this poster ("these are freshmen. They have never lived away from home...") stands in total opposition to those who say, "They are adults. Cut the apron strings. Stop being a helicopter parent...."

If they are legal adults, and they signed a document that warned of these consequences for those actions...it is a done deal. And they have learned a valuable (albeit expensive) lesson about contracts along the way.  [/quote]
