BLM isn't about disrupting families. It's about creating structures that recognize and support different kinds of families. They're disrupting a system that doesn't support all families equally. Lots of people are not living in a 2 parent, married nuclear family. Families that aren't nuclear families deserve support and recognition. No one is saying that people can't have 2 parent, married nuclear families if they want them and can make it work.
I am all for a movement that encourages society to take care of each other. (I'm not sure how or why anyone could be opposed to that.) But, is there a policy component to this? In addition to creating a village and looking out for all children, even if they are not technically "our" children, does this plank advocate for systemic regulatory changes? Does it advocate for more liberal guardianship and POA rules? Would it change insurance regulations to require non-relatives to be covered under "family" group insurance plans? In other words, if this goes beyone "look out for all kids, it takes a village," I'd like to know more specifically what they are proposing.
