This event has a history of issues following it -- politics and player selection. Speaking only for the Command team this year, some may want to call it sour grapes, but when you look closely at the final roster you can't help but walk away scratching your head. Four players each made the team from VAM and YJS. I'm sure there are some good players in this group, but at this age neither team is considered near the strongest in the area. So, the question is how did this happen. The answer, the coaches selecting the team for one. This has been a known issue for many years. The bigger issue, so number two, many of the top players from the top two VA clubs didn't even bother to tryout. Congratulations to those girls who made the team, but there is a bigger issue at hand. Why won't the best VA talent bother with this event? The top players in VA consistently compete against the strongest players in the country. The difference is not the talent on an individual level, it's that VA teams from top to bottom just don't have the depth. But the top players can hold their own. Why are they not coming out to this event. If we can convince the top players to come out DC would field a team that could compete for a championship in this event every year.
First of all, its Washington DC, aka the DMV, not just VA. Some of the top schools in the ISL and top players for DC, at both highlight and command level come from all three areas and many of those kids didn't even bother to show up. Very few Baltimore players made the highlight team anyway even though strong ones tried out. They didn't have chance as they didn't have any backers. Second, there are more than a few kids in the highlight division who are nationally ranked and recognized players with a solid history of talented play in schools and clubs who didn't show up or were cut. More than just a few of the girls who were rostered are not at that level and can't play at that level. Its facts, not sour grapes. I dont have a kid who tried out for the girls teams. People (who were there and observed from the sidelines) are sharing the truth here. Sorry if you are too stubborn or delusional to acknowledge the facts but there is no getting around them. Only a fool or someone with a kid who made the team and clearly didn't deserve it would continue to claim otherwise. The kids who made it and are genuinely that talented know who they are and won't say any differently - they know exactly which other players have no business on the team with them. Only the ringers claim sour grapes.
