I trust parents a lot more than coaches. I am watching kids practice right now. They are scrimmaging. No distancing. These rules and guidelines are simply unenforceable. Either keep your kid home or don’t. There is no legitimate middle ground. It is up to you to take the risk for you and your family. If you don’t trust others than stay home with your kid. They will miss out but be safe. It’s a choice. Make it one way or the other. It really is that black and white.
There is a legitimate risk that comes from playing the game and then there is a bit more. On our team last year we had a player who was a dirty, poor-tempered kid who, with the encouragement of his parents, set out to physically hurt other players. Late tackles, studs up, intentional elbows and literally shoving players when the coach wasn't looking. He was really a nightmare and eventually the club caught on and they suspended and later kicked him off the team. In this case, should parents have just "stay home--miss out but be safe" when there is a kid and family going outside the rules and raising the potential of harm? No, of course not. Now with COVID, we have club rules and procedures, and the issue is what do we do a) when everyone obeys the rules and b) when people don't obey the rules. There is a risk most of us are willing to take, within the rules, to continue to play the game. But should people "stay home--miss out but be safe" because some families feel the rules don't apply to them? They don't care if their kid has a fever or a cough?
Did you actually read what I wrote? What if the coach is breaking the rules? My point is your thought that other’s will adbide by all these nonsensical rules is naive. Either accept the risk or stay home. No one is going to play by the rules. Accept this is fact, then make your decision.
