What an incredibly ignorant exchange this has been! Regardless of whether the FTF "guy" is a SYC coach or a parent or a spy sent by SYC to another club to scout out possible players for the 06/05 Boys age groups is irrelevant because there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. The fact he claimed/admitted that's what he was doing is odd - in and of itself - because most coaches who are recruiting players are not going to advertise who they are or what they're doing hanging out at a field. This behavior smells like a parent or an inexperienced coach who does not know any better. Those coaches/directors who do recruit like this stay away from people and - unfortunately - lurk in the parking lot to press their agenda after the practice is over. "Psst, hey - I've got an offer for your kid!" What's even more disturbing is the trash talking and club/team bashing that taken place on this thread. The petty need to denigrate a club or a specific team and suggest that any of the clubs/teams in area are somehow superior to the rest is ridiculous. There are individual teams at each club who've been successful at times but there are very few teams in the 06/05 boys age groups who have demonstrated consistently solid performance with the exception of Bethesda. And let's be clear, a good portion of the players on the Bethesda Blue teams were in the DA, so they were hand picking players to compete in select competitions in order to rack up wins. Even in the DA space, Arlington and DC United's 06 & 05 DA's were not consistently successful. My final observation is the "behind the keyboard" bravery displayed by certain posters is disturbing. Real issues are surfacing when your anger about youth soccer manifests in cowardly, verbal attacks on people, teams and clubs. Act like an adult! Be grown up enough to say who you are so that people in the real world have clear insight into what a horrible person you really are and how you really think. Better yet, walk away from the key board and the field cause ain't no one in this group the parent of the next Messi. If you think you are, you're even more delusional and out of touch with reality..
No one said there was anything wrong with it. The only "negative" (and the reason that this thread was created) is that SYC has a well-known practice of offering players spots on a certain team and then moving them. Is that practice a bad thing? Probably not. But for every player moved up, someone has to go down or out. Letting parents know that SYC is still looking for players in these age groups is just a way for them to be informed that, whatever the coaches and directors are saying (and that what they are saying is not known), rosters are NOT settled. As far as recruiting, if a DC United scout showed up at a practice and said they were looking for kids (or a specific kid), I don't think anyone would find that odd. That's the hoped-for progression, right? But SYC. is. not. DC. United. Maybe that's how SYC views itself, but it's pretty amusing to everyone else.
