^^ I've heard many players from LMVSC and Gunston are looking to move to SYC.
Hopefully get enough players to become the new alexandria!
Alexandria isn't Alexandria because of the number of players--it's because they have the know-how and patience to teach the kids how to play the game. The Maldonados specialize in dropping balls into groups of kids and seeing who most aggressively chases it. That's your red team :P
Both sound like great environments lol. I noticed you didn’t talk about LMVSC’s or Gunston’s “system”. Good choice.
That's because they don't have systems, duh. Well, really, I don't know much about Gunston. Alexandria, however, DOES have a system, and you're comically wrong it you think that their success depends on their depth. I do, however, know quite a bit about SYC (formerly LMVSC) garbageball. Now that kids at other clubs have also grown mustaches, the poor kids who were never taught how to play (move the ball, move off the ball, play fast) and STILL, in their mid-teens, spend 30 minutes each practice dribbling around in circles, find themselves at a bit of a disadvantage, no?
To be fair, I did not read the previous post as claiming that Alexandria succeeds because of depth. And as much as I agree with you on the value of Alexandria's system, I do think the variability in performance across top teams each year is very much a function of roster depth. The deeper the player pool, the more likely you will be able to find pieces that mesh well in this system. We were at a different club before moving to Alexandria where there were essentially only two top teams, but played out of the back and with structure just like ASA. That can last for a few years, but when the rosters and field expand, you need a lot more players in the club to remain competitive and top-tier.
