Why do people send their kids across town to overcrowded schools when they have such distain for the neighborhood and their kids’ classmates?
Good question. Why doesn’t the Wilson principal consider a different school when she has such disdain for the in-boundary families?
How about the in-bound parent conduct themselves respectfully - that would be a good start. No one ever talks about their bad behavior and disdain for OB students (code: black and brown students).
IB parent here, and I couldn’t agree more.
+1. Also the black principal who parents hated before she started because racism. If parents have a problem with OOB students, they need to tell their feeder elementary schools to stop admitting them to the pipeline.
Or let them fill up their feeder schools if they don't want OOB kids enrolling in them.
Aren’t all the feeder schools already full of IB students? Are you in favor of overcrowded schools?
How do you think OOB kids get into Wilson? Through the feeder schools. My own kid got into Hardy as an OOB student in 7th grade. So no, they aren't full of IB students.
Some get in this way, but a decent percentage live in-bounds at a certain point, enroll in school, move away and get to stay in the feeder pattern all the way through 12th grade. So they never lotteried in. This is why it's interesting to me to see so many people furious at the parents that lottery and treating "OOB kids" as all black-and-brown kids from Wards 7 & 8. In group/out group is more important than facts.
