As a private tutor I see the downstream impact of this - kids who aren’t taught effectively end up not understanding the material. Since math builds on prior concepts these kids end up thinking they are dumb at math or, worse, dumb overall. Teachers reinforce that these kids are stupid, because the alternative is that they are capable student taught poorly reflects badly on the teacher. [/quote]
