I've found among my daughter's mostly Caucasian friends in NW that kids here tend to go through puberty on the later side. My daughter just got her period at age 13.5. At least half of her friends haven't gotten it yet (about 10 girls out of 20). (How do I even know? Their moms are my friends and/or they've told my daughter. The girls are very open about talking about this---I don't remember discussing starting my period with friends when I was her age but apparently girls do now). Her twin brother (13.5) just started puberty. I'd say that 75% of his friends have probably started (meaning their voices have changed). I'm not the weird puberty police but I do notice when his friends' voices change as it's really obvious when out of the blue their "Hi Mrs. Jones!" is an octave lower.
Haha, yes I can relate. One time my son was "arguing" with some MAN's voice on the xbox and I freaked out....it was actually another 13 yr. old friend and neighbor playing on the xbox! We're Hispanic descent and normally we tend to go through puberty early. I had my period on 6th grade. I was 5.3 then and barely grew another inch. ugh! My son started puberty at 12, he's 14yr. and 6 feet tall now!
