I don’t think the current School Board has any love for TJHSST. They didn’t even bother with a press release this year when the admissions offers came out. You could say that was due to Covid, but they’ve churned out plenty of other news releases over the past month.
Why is a press release necessary???????? Thirsty much?
TJHSST is a selective Governor's School In the past, it was a source of pride for FCPS and each year a press release was issued shortly after offers of admission were extended that indicated the number of applicants, the number of offers, and the demographics of the admitted students. They delayed in issuing a press release last year and this year they seem to be waiting even longer, even though the challenges associated with COVID-19 haven't kept them from churning out other news releases. I don't think it's "thirsty" to wonder whether this reflects a greater reluctance on the part of FCPS to call attention to TJHSST and/or who is and is not getting admitted.
The school system has come to a complete halt because of the Blackboard fiasco and you -- yet you -- wish to whine about a press release to announce the TJ admittances. A personal email or letter to each admittee is not enough. You need the town crier to herald you through the public square. I don't believe for one second that TJ is suffering from lack of publicity (see USNews Best High Schools rankings). Take a chill pill and relax....but do stay at home and shelter in place.
They have issued dozens of news releases since the shutdown and held electronic meetings to discuss regular business. It's not like the public affairs people who churn out these releases are the ones who are going to solve the IT problems or have that much on their plates. Had TJ been named the top school in the country (with 7 other schools in the top 10 in the state) a decade ago, FCPS would have put out a press release. But the current crowd is so obsessed with "equity" that it won't congratulate a TJ or Langley because they're worried it might upset someone at Annandale or Lee. Hell, they've even talked about suing Great Schools because they don't like having schools that are only rated a 2 or 3 now. They want TJ to fly as far under the radar as possible.
It was named the top school in the nation more than a decade ago and they did put out multiple press releases. This is common knowledge on both fronts. Drop the agenda and do better.
Last year's news items was released on May 31, 2019. Just wait a few more weeks before you mount your high horse and lunge after windmills. https://www.fcps.edu/news/fcps-tjhsst-offers-admission-494-students
