These are a few things I didn't see in the above posts that might matter in making a decision.  One thing that I noticed was that, overall, for the pro-UVA people it was about $. So if that isn't a huge barrier.....

We are looking at a similar situation with UMD (top nationally-ranked major) and DS being offered a significant merit scholarship.  [/quote]
