Even my more conservative friends have had couples at their showers. And assuming that women don't eat. Who are you? My grandmother?! I have been to a number of showers that were potlucks, or where closer friends were asked to bring a dish, which would certainly not be a "posh" shower, but does give it a nice, homey feeling. I think it would make sense to ask other to pitch in - whether paying for things or bringing something. I'd rather have a simpler gathering with all of my friends than start limiting the guest list so it can be fancy. I semi-regularly host folks at my home with numbers around 40-ish. We feed folks with a Costco run for maybe $5/ head. Just keep it simple, and ask a few others to pitch in.[/quote]
