OMG! What is this the 1950s?! I'm in my mid-30s and would HATE to have my male friends (or good god! my partner?!!) excluded from my shower. Even my more conservative friends have had couples at their showers. And assuming that women don't eat. Who are you? My grandmother?!

I have been to a number of showers that were potlucks, or where closer friends were asked to bring a dish, which would certainly not be a "posh" shower, but does give it a nice, homey feeling. I think it would make sense to ask other to pitch in - whether paying for things or bringing something. I'd rather have a simpler gathering with all of my friends than start limiting the guest list so it can be fancy.

I semi-regularly host folks at my home with numbers around 40-ish. We feed folks with a Costco run for maybe $5/ head. Just keep it simple, and ask a few others to pitch in.[/quote]
