I grew up near Berkeley. Everyone I knew who was a frequent user was self medicating for depression, and they all lost years of their lives to pot. It was like pressing a pause button, because all of their motivation was gone. I went away to college, worked a bit, then went back for grad school. I went into a pizza parlor, and there were the potheads from my high school, working the same job they had in 10th grade.(These were people from college educated homes).
this is right on the money: was the same growing up in Chevy Chase, MD, around 1980. Some stoners I knew found considerable career success, but even then, all the years of sneaking around and lying and wasting time took their tool. Others, even from rich, educated families, were permanently damaged. A few ended up dead or in jail.
