1969 Jennifer here to say that I love my name. Love all of the names, but Laura is tough because of its uneven pronunciation. I personally say LOR-ah, but I often hear LAH-rah, or other forms. It’s like Eric...some say AIR-ic, some say EH-ric, etc. Just a thought. Happy naming!
I'm a 1976 Laura, and have had no trouble with people mispronouncing my name. 99.9% of the time people get it right (LOR-ah; LAH-rah is spelled Lara). I love my name: it's strong and classic and not often heard. Anna is great, too.
It depends on what part of the country you are in...I’m from the south and most people pronounced Laura Lar-uh (this is not my name but I have a good friend w the name). I had never heard anyone pronounce it Lor-uh until I moved to Chicago. Anyway, I like the list. Laura, Katherine (if I used this name I would nn Kate), Jennifer (nn Jenny), and Anna are my favorites. Ellen I’ve just never liked the name for some reason. Don’t like the way it sounds. Elizabeth, though it’s my middle name and I have several good friends w the name, I have never liked it either. Claire is ok but I like it better as a middle name than as a first.
