At Prep and other Catholic schools, the divide between Republicans and Democrats (Liberals and Conservatives) might not be so sharp because the group is bound together by things they have in common, like the Catholic religion, the commitment to a Catholic education for their children, maybe even  preference for Catholic colleges post-high school for the kids. There may also be family ties, Parish and parish school associations, acquaintances from growing up together in DC and memberships in clubs and organizations.

Our experience was that people stayed away from discussing politics because there is so much else to discuss and it's so divisive.

If you cannot restrain yourself, than this would be a problem. There are enough Republicans and conservatives in this little world, that it would be pretty easy to pick an unnecessary fight or offend people.

The Democrats that have sent their kids to Prep (Kennedy's, Shrivers, etc.) were doing so because they were Catholics and not because they were Democrats.[/quote]
