As the subject is CLUB lacrosse I do think it is a valid point about VA Public schools. This year there will not be one private school program in Loudoun that is competitive in Lacrosse. PVI opens in 2020. No one can argue that the public school talent is close to the private school talent team v. team but if you pool players from many schools together one could make a solid team. That is what club lacrosse is. Does NOVA have enough players? I think yes. The issue is if more clubs pop up and it spreads the talent across too many teams. Someone will miss out. Evergreen has a lot of reasons to attract players but seemed to have lost many to Blackwolf. There are always outliers such as parents who will go to practices 3-4 hours away. But for the most part, the NOVA kids going to Baltimore teams and the Baltimore kids going to LI teams are doing so as GUEST players for a tournament. Teams like Legends, WCStars, Dukes...are not the same and will still draw kids from all over including NOVA.
With respect to CLUB lacrosse, the handicap a Loudoun club faces is their geographic isolation. There is almost no one playing lacrosse to the west or south of them, and there is no easy access to the Maryland hotbeds in the North. A Loudoun club will have to populate its team almost entirely with Loudoun and western Fairfax players. Madlax and DC Express are in a much more central location - they get players from Montgomery County, DC, Annapolis, Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax County, and Loudoun County. Madlax and DC Express also get players from North Carolina, Delaware, Eastern Shore, Richmond, Charlottesville, etc. (rostered players, not guests), but the attraction for those players is the broad local talent base those clubs can draw from.
