I was tired of buying gift cards and bought monogrammed stationary for all my DC's teachers. It was between that and a really pretty umbrella. Something that everyone can use and can't get enough of. You can always use more notecards and you can never find an umbrella when you need it.
Omg. A flippin umbrella?! You can’t be serious. I’d be so pissed if that was my end of year gift! - A teacher
NP here. Seriously? Be thankful for whatever the parent can give you. If you don't like the umbrella donate.
Just take the money you would have spent on the umbrella and put it toward the class gift card, please! We don’t need monogrammed notecards or tote bags, either!
Don't attempt to speak for everyone. Not every teacher is the sort of greedy twat that measures the success of the year by counting the dollars in the collection plate.
I’m sorry, I don’t want your f%king umbrella. And nobody else does, either. Shove it where the sun don’t shine!
+1 I have tons of umbrellas already.
I'm a teacher and would appreciate any gift from a child, especially something useful. If I don't need or use the item, I can donate them. However, my "favorite" gifts are cards/letters from students. As a parent I'm often surprised at what my DD suggests as gifts for teachers and how much thought she puts into them. She takes time to pick just the right color/design of the card she's writing in or has interesting ideas of what the teachers will like. I see Ms. X with coffee, lets get her a Starbucks card, I know Mr. Y loves to read, let's get him a Barnes and Noble card. Or whatever. What might seem like a "meh" gift could likely have been something a child and/or parent spend a lot of time choosing just for you... and even if they didn't, they took the time and spent the money to show their appreciation. They are under no obligation to do so and it's sad that there are teachers complaining about the gifts they receive.
