DCYFC is the worst. Coaches never knew my son's name. Mitch's desperation to constantly promote the club becomes exhausting, particularly when he makes promises that he can't keep. His fury when learning that some of his DEVELOPMENT players were trying out for other travel teams was really something to behold. I wanted to like it, I really did.
Mitch Dubensky is a world class a$$hole. While this club definitely is a nice balance between rec and travel, Mitch is perhaps the absolute WORST person on the planet. He is a mean cuss.
Amen to that. Maybe there's a good side to him that I missed...but I have horror stories from him.
Agreed
I've had my fair share of interactions and disagreements with him, while my DS was still in their development program. Now that he is on one of the teams, I interact more with the coach than with Mitch. His coaches are all great! While I disagree with some of his statements, IMO he just keeps it honest. I think some parents nowadays are too soft and have a grandiose ideas that their DS is the next Messi, and can't handle simple truths. What I've noticed is that, since DCYFC is still relatively small compared to the big clubs (Bethesda, Arlington, etc.) they don't always get to pick up the top of the crop or make multiple teams per age group, instead they focus on developing the players they get and you get to see the teams development first hand. For the price and coaching that they offer, I honestly think it's a bargain. Achilles on the other hand, I think is a great club only if your DS gets placed on a team that has Sal's full attention (EDP teams). If Sal is not interested, especially in the younger age groups, the teams suffer. Achilles has great coaches as well, but Sal spreads them too thin, with often really small numbers and if they don't have enough kids in an age group, they're always played up. So up to you on what you think it's best for your DS.
