MCPS also tries to balance this out.
I think you're right - gender IS known to the reviewers, to make sure Takoma isn't all male and Eastern all female.
It’s pretty sexist to think one school would end up with only one sex without outside interference. How can that be possible?
No assumptions being made. MCPS said they needed to balance gender.
You realize that's illegal?
Really? When DC was in the magnet at TPMS, it was acknowledged that they tried to get more girls. We were told the admission process was completely "blind" w.r.t. everything else - race/home school/etc. I do not know if this has changed with the new admissions process.
And you really believe that?
Whether I believe what you have bolded is completely irrelevant to the post I was responding to. The point was that the same MCPS official who claimed that the process was blind w.r.t. to the other factors had no problem acknowledging that MCPS did try to balance gender. Again, this was a few years ago.
I've heard this claim from others before but like a lot of things stated on this board may just be a rumor. Can you provide a citation, please...
It's noted on MCPS docs about the selection process. See page 7: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/schools/msmagnet/about/Middle%20school%20magnet%20selection%20process%20overview.PDF
page 7 just discusses the review process but says nothing of the kind. Here's the exact text. I can't believe you people keep trying to perpetuate these lies. [qoute] Process Step Action Decision Round 1 A: Individual Review Review academic performance and student voice Limited Substantial Definitive Round 1B: Individual Review Review CogAT score and reevaluate rating Limited Substantial Definitive Exceptional Round 2: Paired Review Compare, discuss, and determine if you can come to consensus Round 3: Group Review for Consensus Only if needed Round 4: Program Recommendation Decision Led by OSA Recommended Wait Pool Not Recommended

Sorry, slide 6 states "factors for consideration" and notes that gender is indicated on application. How would you interpret this?
