I haven't read this whole thread so maybe this has already been said, but the only reason that school is staying afloat is because of the summer camp. Each week, hundreds of families pay around $500 for their children to be supervised by low-paid high school and college students who sit around and text on their phones all day long. They pack in as many campers as they can because otherwise the school would go bankrupt. Boggles my mind.
This can't be right. The summer camp has been the most popular in the area for over a decade. Are you saying it's gone down-hill or it's always been this way?
Both are basically true. The camps are hugely popular and unarguably a key financial contributor that allows the school to make ends meet. At the same time, the counselors are - by and large - high school kids. This puts it in concert with nearly every other camp on the planet that uses high school and college kids. My kids loved it when they were younger and the ongoing success of the camps speaks to the experiences of other families.
