My brother in law is fat and wants to lose weight. I ask him what he plans to do about it and oh yeah does he own a scale? No
Do you also ask him if he knows how to use a scale? Maybe you need to show him how?
He is thin, obsessed with his weight, and always has been this way.., —— OP
Based on this alone, I wouldn't have been at all surprised to get a scale. And no way he hasn't commented to your weight/what you eat in your 50+ years walking the earth. People like that can't help themselves, literally.
Agree. It's more a comment on him than on you, OP. If he is as you describe, he is obsessed and cannot understand other people, especially his family are not similarly obsessed. His obsession leads him to assume that this would be a useful and desirable gift, because you will feel the same obsession, not as a commentary about your weight. Think of it like a person with OCD who has to walk around your house straightening up all of the knick knacks, photos and decorations on your tables and end tables or a person with OCD who walks around wiping all surfaces down with Lysol wipes over and over, to the point of getting raw, chapped hands.
