No, people, you have hold of the wrong end of the stick. Yes, most liberal arts colleges ENROLL more than 50% women. But they ACCEPT a lower percentage of female applicants than male applicants - for the simple reason that there are far well more qualified female applicants than there are well-qualified male applicants. The only reason most non-tech universities have anything close to 50% men (as opposed to having women make up the large majority of enrolled students) is because most colleges now provide affirmative action in admissions.... for white boys. Don't believe me? See: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-surprising-secret-of-legalized-gender-discrimination_b_5a11b570e4b023121e0e93db https://www.vox.com/2015/2/17/8050259/discrimination-against-women-is-a-real-problem-in-college-admissions https://www.applerouth.com/blog/2017/09/12/5050-isnt-equal-when-it-comes-to-college-admissions/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2016/03/13/want-an-edge-in-college-admissions-see-the-schools-where-women-and-men-have-an-advantage/?utm_term=.434604c07794 I would be just fine with my daughters attending colleges that are 70% female. Men apparently got along just fine for most of the last few centuries at colleges with few or no women. I say: if the boys can't make the grades, tough luck for them. We already live in a world that disadvantages women in a thousand large and small ways. Suck it it, guys. I just wish college admissions offices felt the same. And you know the true reason they don't? Hint: it's not because they think gender balance is inherently good. It's because they know that men still out-earn women, and they are scared that with fewer male alums, they will have fewer rich alums to endow the new football stadium. Truth.
You know many, many women don't share this view of what it's like to be a female, right?
Awesome! Do you want to tell your daughter that she needs to get better grades than her brother to get into the same college? And a higher SAT score too.
Do you want to tell your son that he needs to get better grades than his sister to get into the same college and even then he will not get as much merit aid as she does? It is the same on the other side for different schools.
