Question for those who have been through this. If they attend a RTC or Wilderness Program what happens when they return back home. Do they return to the same HS? Is there a danger of the same bad habits returning if they are put back into the same environment.
. Pp whose son was in a wilderness program. One of the biggest problems is if the kid has a group of friends that are not good for them. If they go back to hanging with that group of friends, there can be backsliding in terms of recovery. This is particularly true of drugs are an issue. We received a lot of parent training during the course of the program. And this was not an issue for our son- neither drugs nor friends who are bad influences. So I don’t have personal experience with this issue. As far as returning to school, that depends on what you decide and what your child’s IEP says. One of the biggest problems that we had prior to placement was that after even a two week hospitalization he could not catch up his school work, which in turn triggered him and led to further hospitalization. So his doctor did not clear him for school. He is now home schooling. But at the next school year this will be revisited.
