About 1/3 of the graduating class from Nysmith go to TJ, not sure about the other two schools.
Only 25/485 from all private schools! Here is the link. https://www.fcps.edu/news/tjhsst-offers-admission-485-students-class-2022
Whoa, so how small is the 8th grade graduating class of Nysmith if only 25 kids from all privates go to TJ and a 1/3 of the class at Nysmith attend?
The 1/3 is a bit inaccurate. This year there are about 40-50 kids in nysmith's graduating class of which about 20 applied to TJ and almost all made it to the second step (after the written tests) and then 12 kids this year were accepted after the final selection.
Woa, 12 out of 20 is very high!! 12 out of 50 is also very high!!
The class is around 60 +/- 5. The surprise this year was as the pp said that all those who went to the final round didn’t get in given how solid this class is.
So would it be more accurate to say 1/5 of the class goes to TJ?
Not all 12/14 will finally end up at TJ, some kids opt for private over TJ.
So 1/5 is accepted at TJ?
yes, somewhere between 1/4 to 1/5
About 1/5th of the TOTAL class was accepted, but only about 1/3 of the class even applied. Over 1/2 of those who actually applied to TJ were accepted.
PP, I assume you are a Nysmith's parent. Congratulations!! Do you know whether the kids that are accepted to TJ have outside test prep, or did Nysmith prepare them so well?
Some took outside prep and some didn’t, don’t really know the split. Some did essay prep after school with one of the instructor and some did it outside the school for the final round. Overall the kids were well prepared before the test. Nysmith does do a good job in Math, Science and English and allows the kids to learn at their own pace without much pressure.
