Just a counter-argument to all those who say “oh it annoyed us then but now we laugh about it!” I had a meeting every day before school so I had to be up at 6am. I set my alarm daily but my mom invariably decided it was her job to wake me yp before my alarm went off. She would come in 5-10 minutes before I actually needed to be up singing or yelling or turning on lights and I hated it and I still resent it now and think it is emblematic of her entire approach to parenting. Everything on her terms 100% of the time even when there is no reason for her to be involved at all. I drove myself to these meetings so she didn’t even need to be out of bed—she just needed every aspect of my life to be about her. I know I am the exception, but if you are waking your kids up daily in an annoying way, I hope it is after having had a conversation about what time they think they need to wake up and asking how they would like to take responsibility for getting themselves up.
I agree with you completely. I don't get all this obnoxious patting yourself on the back from pp's. So annoying. I hate being jolted awake. I don't do it to my kids and especially when it's not necessary. My mom would shout my name early on a Saturday morning with the "I'm up, so should you be" mentality. Didn't matter that I did my chores, made excellent grades, had a job, etc. Just obnoxious.
I think waking someone just to wake them is mean. I want my kids to get as much sleep as possible. I’ll let them sleep until 6:15 if they ask, when they really should probably should be up at 6. But, when they’re not up by 6:30, or when they keep saying 5 more minutes and it’s on me to get them up, or when they sleep through their alarms... drastic measures are called for. Don’t put me in the position of being responsible for waking you up, make my job difficult, then complain about my methodology.
