Not true at least in Kidman's case. Cruise tried to keep her from working in Hollywood again. Her biggest roles (Moulin Rouge!), To Die For and Oscar win movie (The Hours) were already in the works at the time of the divorce. The divorce came just before their 10 yr anniversary, which was widely rumored to have allowed Cruise to avoid a big payout to her. Her success over the next 20 years is from mostly from smaller budget films and only in more recent years she’s just getting her own stuff made by buying options and producing projects herself. So, yes, she came out alive but he wasn't a payday or ticket to Hollywood.

Katie Holmes apparently went into the TC marriage wiser, got money sooner, grabbed her daughter and literally fled in the night to escape him. And her career?[/quote]
