No, Aaliyah was not on that path. She was not involved with R Kelly for years. She was deep with Missy Elliott and Timbaland, making music. When Aaliyah's parents found out about the marriage, they had it annulled and she had nothing to do with him after that, publicly. They probably thought that was the best outcome. Her career did not suffer and she did not speak about it. Unfortunately, we are not our sister's keeper. Who knows if there was some type of settlement. I can understand her mother being upset with Aaliyah being a part of the documentary because she cannot speak for herself and it all took place in the 90s. By the mid and late 90s, she was making hits without R. Kelly. Some parents give permission for their teens to marry. Her parents shut it down when they found out. Aaliyah's uncle was R.
