OP, I grew up in Arizona. I knew lots of people who went to ASU and U of A. My best friend's daughter is at U of A. She loves it. I am somewhat skeptical of the idea of "neighboring states as a better launching pad for CA jobs than staying in VA." People who go to Arizona schools mostly want jobs in Arizona. I don't think AZ schools give you any advantage, relative to any other non-California state, for getting jobs in California. What I think you should look at is the Cal State system. Some of them are in roughly the same category as U of A in terms of price and selectivity. (Some of them are even cheaper than U of A, as far as I can tell.) San Diego State, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State LA, Cal Poly Pomona - I work for an engineering company that has thousands of employees in southern California, and we definitely hire people from these schools.
I am from Los Angeles. Lol, absolutely not.
+1 sorry, but this is terrible advice. Do not listen to it.
OP here. LOL, I'm not. The suggestion I send my son to a community college in California, especially considering I've never send a single word about him being interested in anything realted to California, is very strange. Filtering out "noise" is important on DCUM, so I've learned!
Cal State schools are not "community colleges". As for not saying anything about California, was this not you? 10/21/2018 17:25 "Both U of A and AS are on my radar for DS because he ultimately wants to live in CA (most of our relatives are there so we visit there a lot) but we can't afford UC's OOS tuition and there aren't many (any?) privates that offer much merit aid. So, he's considering neighboring states as a better launching pad for CA jobs than staying in VA."
