Poolesville is a whole school Magnet. Not sure what that means but perhaps parents from upcounty know more than me?
Yes, Poolesville is whole school magnet. In Poolesville case you take exam to join the magnet program if you live in upper Montgomery County. Kids who live in the school boundaries have a higher chance to be picked because they take 25% of the students from their own middle school and the rest of the kids can take magnet courses if their is space available.
If not all the kids are magnet how is it a whole school magnet? [/quit Magnet kids take most of their class with other magnet kids. But,non magnet school boundary kids can take magnet courses if there is space in those classes. This makes it inclusive and whole magnet school.
No they can't take magnet classes. They can take advanced level classes if there is space but the magnet classes are reserved for the magnet students.
At Blair non-magnets can take magnet classes if there is space and they have the pre-reqs.
This is only true for magnet electives. The required courses taken by magnet freshmen and sophomores are only open to magnet students. They run 4 classes in each subject. In 11th and 12th grade non magnet students can take magnet elective courses but only if they have the pre reqs and only if there is space available. Unusual to have more than a couple of non magnet students in these classes.
