When my friends - white men that are socially left-of-center -  say stuff like this, it's usually because they are upset about "cultural signalling" issues - i.e., the rise of minorities and women in the Democratic party. I have a lot of white, male friends who are socially liberal and are very bitter about white men losing power in the Democratic party. They feel "lost" but can't honestly articulate why they are feeling that way.[/quote]

Like voting to spend Montgomery taxpayer funds for a defense fund for illegal/undocumented immigrants who are accused of crimes...

Like making stupid laws for every little thing, like having to ask permission from the county to even airbnb your house out while you're on vacation..

Like generally focusing on sending signals to everyone about how virtuous they are with their great ambitions to save everyone from some lack of privilege while letting jobs and money drain out of the county..

I don't think that there is anything wrong with the rise of women and minorities in the democratic party. I do think that on some social issues the left is outpacing me and I can't keep up with them, though.
