Another version, our pool says you can swim the B but only get a competitor ribbon if you placed in the top 3 at the prior A meet. You can swim B for time, but not for place.
So exhibition only right? I wish our pool would allow that.
That makes so much sense! My B meet kid finished around 4th or 5th for his age group, with the top kids in his heat going very fast. (My kid was around 1:08 for backstroke and those kids were clearly well under 1 minute) There were 2 heats and the 2nd heat looked slower than the first. When we picked up ribbons, my kid got first. We assumed it had to be because all those faster kids got DQ'd. But when I looked up the race time, there were only 6 kids shown. My kid was indeed the fastest and only 1 kid was DQd. But I saw around 11 kids race. It now makes sense if those faster kids were A team kids just swimming for practice/exhibition times.
For A and B meets, a child can swim different events.
But many teams don’t allow a kid who won a ribbon at an A meet to win any ribbons at the following B meet. They can swim strokes that they didn’t swim at the A meet, but they aren’t eligible for any ribbons.
Ours does as I just got my child's ribbons. Remember summer kids are competing with year round kids, some in private lessons so you will get a huge range of abilities.
We are just doing swim team for glorified swim lessons and practice, so we are happily B team with no goals of making A team. I was just puzzled about how my kid ended up with first place when there were at least 4 kids visibly faster by several body lengths. And when there were only 5 or 6 kids on the team unify site ai was even more confused. It makes sense now if those fast kids were just swimming for practice. Maybe OPs kid is in a similar situation, where those faster scores are not on the site so it looks like her kid is top of the B meets.
They must have gotten DQ'ed. Or, it may have gone by ages and they mixed the age groups but your child was the fastest in the age group. Don't use team for lessons as most don't have good coaching for stroke. Speed is great but getting good strokes is more important. I wish we started private lessons sooner than we did.
I would bet on exhibition or 2 age groups. They usually list DQs.
