She has one-in-a-lifetime perks, status and comforts at her disposal but she also has a tremendous amount of work. She is an agent of the Crown and the UK government and as such "rules" or maintains her supreme status at the will of the people who someone in her position should supposedly serve.

The Monarchy isn't about "oh look at me and my shiny tiara at a gala" its about serving your subjects. Your life, your time, your duty is your country.

She is not a private citizen average joe who can veg out at Starbucks and read DCUM. When she married Prince William she effectively gave up her life, her youth, her womb, her time to her country.

As such she lives in a Palace where she is served hand to foot so that every hour of her day is used as efficiently as possible so she can properly adhere to the business of serving her country.

Right or wrong that is what the monarchy is.

The Queen understands this very well and as such she is always prepared and ever ready to serve whether it is cutting ribbons or repairing cards during the WWs. Rain or shine, whether she is ill or not, her job is to put on her jewels, plaster on a smile and appear and wave and not let her subjects down.

Kate Middleton seems to think marrying Prince William means she gets to be a cushy SAHM with some prestigious ribbon cutting on her off time.

NOT so.

I actually think it is Prince William who gave her that idea as he purposefully even sought out and chose a lazy, shy wallflower for a future Queen. I think he was so devastated by his parents split that he just wanted a "normal" life and marrying Kate is as close to it as he got. He also whines and complains about his burden any chance he gets and loathes public appearances and the media. I wish he would just step down as he doesn't have his heart in it.
