If you have a job that is strictly 9-5 and you actually get to take vacations where you don't have to check-in and aren't expected to be available after hours ... what do you do?
I'm a Gs-13 federal gvt employee working for the Defense Dept in asset management. I work 8:00 am -4:30 pm with one day of telework a week. I have a flexible work schedule where I can start any time between 6:00 am - 9:00 am and do my 8 hours. If I'm on vacation, I am not expected to check in. The only way I'm available after hours is if my dept head authorized overtime prior to doing it. Our agency is very strict about not doing work during off hours or weekends without prior authorization although if you get it approved you can do the overtime by telework. Having said that, it's rare that I have to do that. It happens maybe once or twice a year.
