OP, you know junk food is addictive, right? Maybe you are contributing to the problem by serving or allowing too much junk food. You said you sometimes have pizza and let the kids make cookies, and that may be keeping your son addicted to those foods. I can’t believe how many people especially on this forum are still unaware of the perils of the standard American diet. There’s a study that shows if you ate the same diet today that someone ate in the 1980s you would still way more today even if you got the same amount of exercise. Something is happening to our food that is making everyone fat. Food companies don’t use their research dollars to make food healthier, they use it to make food more addictive. My DD is overweight at 16. It breaks my heart. When she was younger we were making good progress with her weight by completely eliminating all sugar and processed foods from her diet. It made her mood happier too. But when her dad and I divorced and she spends half her time at his house, he feeds her all the foods that we eliminated when she was younger. All that does is make her crave more and more of those foods. The road leading to her school is lined with fast food restaurants. I see kids going in and out of them at drop off and pick up times. It’s no wonder that Americans are now too fat to join the military and that every it breaks my heart. It’s no wonder that Americans are now too fat to join the military and that our lifespans are no longer increasing. Food company should be held accountable for what they have done to us. Accountability can only come from more people realizing that the diet we eat is terrible for us. It’s bad for our waistlines it’s bad for heart it’s bad for our health. It sounds like you’re trying to do the right thing. Maybe by being as permissive as you are you’re actually hurting your cause.
